During Life Story Financial Anniversary, We Highlight 5 Key Initiatives
They say time flies when you’re having fun, which is why it’s hard to believe my firm Life Story Financial is celebrating its second anniversary! My fee-only financial planning practice is focused on empowering women to take control of their money to achieve financial independence.
I launched my fully independent practice to better serve clients with a full-service approach to money that goes beyond just investing. I was someone who experienced bankers, insurance agents, and advisors only talking up their financial products, and worse, only talked to my husband. It helped me see the need for a better way to give financial advice.
I believe the cornerstone of the firm’s success is based on my life-focused approach to financial planning. Helping clients focus on the “why” behind their money helps to make the numbers matter to them and motivates them to take action
Here are the five key initiatives that have elevated the firm’s client experience over the past two years.
#1 Free Ebook Series: Empowering Women with Financial Knowledge
I personally know how good it feels to be become financially literate and in control of your money as a woman. It’s important to me to be able to help a wider audience of women in midlife (whether in a relationship or not) with their finances.
That’s why I launched a five-book series called Empower40: Mastering Your Money Story in Your 40s to help readers get—and keep—their finances on track. The books offer in-depth steps for how to manage debt, earn more to save more, invest wisely and prepare for a work-optional future, along with a list of my favorite personal finance resources to keep learning.
My goal for the series is to empower women to take charge of their finances with easy-to-understand advice that’s actionable today.
#2 Content Expansion: Blogs and Videos on Relevant Topics
In today’s rapidly evolving landscape of online financial content and AI, it’s harder than ever to make informed decisions without experiencing serious information overload. I wanted to make it easier for anyone looking for accurate financial information to find it online.
I expanded my firm’s content offerings by incorporating blogs and a YouTube channel covering the top questions I hear from clients. These relevant topics include how to understand executive compensation, taxes, investments, career advancement, planning to make work optional and even personal development.
#3 Library of Educational Handouts
As part of combatting information overload and making it easier to make informed decisions, I also began compiling a library of educational handouts and checklists. These are more in-depth than a blog post and cover the major financial planning topics I discuss with clients.
The handouts include what’s most important to know and the pros and cons to consider on a topic. They’re written in an easy-to-read format that’s free from industry jargon. In the future, I plan to create an online portal for clients to access these resources.
#4 Networking for Client-Focused Expertise
Over the past two years, I have proactively cultivated relationships with like-minded professionals dedicated to advancing women’s financial and personal goals. These amazing professionals are there to help others when they need it, whether it’s accounting, legal, insurance or life and career-related advice.
Nurturing relationships with professionals like these are a resource for me to call or introduce someone to when clients have questions related to their areas of expertise.
#5 Improved Financial Planning Software
Life Story Financial implemented tax planning software to complement its financial planning software as part of the full-service financial planning package. That’s because taxes touch every part of our financial lives. A tax return is like a financial fingerprint because it’s unique and complete with valuable clues that just happen to be buried in dozens of pages and hundreds of numbers.
The software helps identify potential planning opportunities—both now and in the future—to help keep clients’ lifetime tax liability as low as possible by evaluating tax efficiency, identifying missed opportunities, and projecting upcoming tax liabilities.
